Separate Projects, Different Times
Steve Borth, II began to play the saxophone in fourth grade when he was 10 years old. He carried that interest into his teen years and as a young adult. The first band that he joined outside of his hometown of Sacramento, California was East Bay band, Link 80. He continued in the ska/punk scene when he left to join the Orange county based, Rx Bandits. With both bands he toured throughout the world. In 2003, he started to write his own music and front his own project, Satori with a more rocksteady sound. In 2009 he started CHLLNGR, a project focusing more on an electronic sound but using his dub roots as a foundation.

Steve I:
In the late seventies I took my young family with me on the road to do concerts to raise money for the Loud Cry Mission. We drove from California to Maine, they were quite the troopers. As we got into the early to mid eighties the kids were school age so I had to take to the road by myself. Doing over one hundred concerts a year, I was away from the family quite a bit. No cellphones at that time so there was not even a lot of communication except letters. So there was loneliness, and a lot of material to write songs about. In 1982, Rick Garcia allowed me to come into the studio and do a demo of some of those songs. Realizing I couldn't add them to my concert list, I was hoping some Country artist would like and record at least some of them. Problem was I never really promoted them, too busy with my touring. Three years ago while cleaning out my shop I found a cassette with the label "1982 Country Demo". To my surprise it actually played and I was thrilled to hear songs I had forgotten about. Long story shorter, my son, Steven Jess Borth II heard them and would not take no for an answer, he wanted to produce an album with me as the artist. "Home As Soon As I Can" and "Simple Things" were created out of that production. |
